- Why are you looking for a Torx bit set? You need a Star bit set! The difference between Torx bits and star bits is that Torx is a licensed product, meaning manufacturers need to conform to licensed prints. Chapman Star bits are precision manufactured to fit Torx screws, but we cannot call them Torx bits because we’ve added improvements that don’t qualify under official Torx licensing. We manufacture our Star bits with a ball detent which locks them into our tools, and they feature our signature knurled end for finger tightening. This is essential for working on sensitive electronics where magnets can short out a PC board.Â
- Do the Torx bits have a knurl and ball detent? Unless it’s a Chapman MFG star bits, they do not! Only Chapman makes Star bits with a ball detent and knurled end.
- Do the Torx bits come with drivers? Torx bit sets aren’t particularly handy unless you have a variety of good drivers. Chapman star sets for Torx screws come with our famous midget ratchet, and the larger sets come with interchangeable extensions, spinners and a screwdriver handle. They have all the tools you need to reach and turn virtually any Torx screw!
- Are the Torx bits precision milled? Any tool user knows that poorly made Torx drivers can make a mess out of screws. When the Torx driver fits into the Torx screw sloppily, it can strip the screw or continually pop out which can marr the workpiece or the user. Chapman star bits are precision milled to tight tolerances to fit snugly into Torx screws. Since the Torx shape is a complicated six sided shape, if any of the angles or radii are off or the points of the star aren’t sharp, the driver won’t fit into the screw well. Trust Chapman Star bits to get you a snug fit every time!
- Does the Torx set contain the most common size Torx Bits? There are a million Torx sets on the market, but many don’t contain Torx drivers for the most common sized Torx screws. The most common Torx screws are T6, T8, T10, T15, T20, T25 and T30. All Chapman Star driver sets contain the bits to drive those screws. Coming in close second to the most common sizes are T27 and T40 Torx screws, and Chapman’s larger Star bit sets contain those drivers.
- Is the Torx set Made in the USA? Unless it’s a Chapman tool, the answer is probably not! Chapman Star bits are precision milled from US sourced steel in Durham, CT.
